‘Mathematics is a great motivator for all humans…

Because its career starts with zero and it never ends(infinity).’

In our technologically advanced world, Mathematics applications are as diverse as they are indispensable, touching every aspect of our modern lives. Mathematics is not just a collection of abstract concepts and equations confirmed to the pages of textbooks ; it is a universal language that describes the patterns and structures of the natural world. The ‘Application of Mathematics’ refers to the practical use of mathematical principles, techniques, and models to solve various real-world problems and address challenges across multiple fields and industries.

The truth is that we use math all the time. It is appropriate to note how one experiences mathematical applications in daily life from the time one gets up from bed till one goes to bed in the night. Mathematics is thought to be the basis of everything, from money, buildings and roads to the internet, food production, and even hospitals. It helps us carry out a variety of important daily tasks.

Some real life examples of how math is used in our daily lives:

  1. Time management: When we wake up in the morning, we see the time to verify whether we have enough time to complete various tasks. Creating timetables and schedules involves calculating the optimal allocation of time for different tasks.
  2. Kitchen Mathematics: No doubt, math is involved in cooking and baking. We use mathematics for maintaining the correct ratio of ingredients, calculating cooking time, understanding how to adjust temperature, calculating the nutritional content of a meal etc.
  3. Grocery and expense tracking: While shopping, you track prices and quantities of items, adding them to ensure you stay within your budget. Calculations of unit prices help determine the best value for money, and keeping a running total of your cart ensures you don't overspend. This systematic approach using basic arithmetic, percentage, and comparisons ensures effective financial management.
  4.  Math on the Road: Driving a car or a bike is nothing but a sequence of calculations like What’s the distance to be covered? How much petrol or diesel is required to reach the destination? What should be the speed of the vehicle to reach the destination on time? All these calculations need the basic knowledge of mathematics. These mathematical calculations contribute to safer driving, better trip planning, and more efficient vehicle operation.
  5. Mathematics in Music and Dance: Rhythm, Patterns, and Harmony: Music and dance rely heavily on rhythmic patterns, which are often expressed in terms of time signatures and beats. Musicians and dancers use fractions and ratios to understand and synchronize different rhythmic movements.
  6. Home makeover: Mathematics is essential in home makeovers for accurate measurements of rooms, furniture, and fixtures are essential to ensure everything fits perfectly. This involves calculating area and volume for flooring, paint, and storage space.
  7. Technology: Modern technologies are based on various foundational principles and algorithms derived from math. Mobile phones, internet and software use advanced mathematical concepts such as calculus, linear algebra, and algorithms to complete every task and command in proper series of actions. Machine learning and data analysis are the leaders in modern technological advancements. These technologies drive innovations across all industries. Math plays a crucial role in machine learning and data analysis.
  8. Sports: Basic knowledge of math also helps keep track of scores for every sports activity. It improves player's cognitive and decision making skills and helps them call the right shots for the team. With the knowledge of geometry and trigonometry, the player can identify the direction and angle that the ball will strike to score. It can help them find the best way to hit a ball, make a basket or run around the track.
  9. Base of other subjects and Engineering: Math itself is a unique subject, but it forms the base of every subject. The subjects like physics, chemistry, economics, history, accountancy, statistics, in fact every subject is based upon math. Every field of engineering also includes mathematics. Computer Science, Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Automobile and Aeronautical engineering are some of the fields that depends heavily on math.

These are only a few examples of math's uses in our day-to-day life, but the applications of math are vast and extend into nearly every aspect of our existence.

In conclusion we can say that Mathematics plays a crucial role in our daily lives by enhancing our problem-solving and analytical skills. It is a powerful tool that helps us understand and navigate the world around us. It is not just an academic subject but a vital tool to function effectively and efficiently in everyday activities. By applying mathematical principles, we achieve greater precision, efficiency, and success in both personal and professional endeavors.

It is rightly said by Shakuntala Devi that, “Without mathematics, there's nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you is numbers."
